Greyhounds Grab First Two Games of Landmark Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (April 28, 2012) – The Moravian Greyhounds (25-14) captured both games of today's final Landmark doubleheader this afternoon. Drew (19-19) had a comeback fall short in game one losing 5-4 and were blanked game two, 3-0.

Game 1
The Rangers 1-0 lead after a balk in the first inning was short lived as the Greyhounds posted two runs in their first turn at the plate. Dave Zubia cracked a homer off Drew starting pitcher Matthew Hunter (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy). Two batters later Gregg Steinman stroked an RBI triple down the right field line to give Moravian a 2-1 advantage.

Hunter pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits in four innings of work.

With the score 3-1 going into the third inning, the Rangers knotted the score on two-RBI triple by Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville). The Greyhounds bounced back in the bottom of the fourth and gave themselves a two-run advantage thanks to a RBI single by Blake Shortall and Zubia's second RBI on a groundout to short.

Drew climbed within a run thanks to a Greyhound error in the top of the sixth that ended up scoring a run for the Rangers on an RBI ground out by Michael Chiarella (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison). A Drew rally in the seventh ended with  two runners on left on base.

Greyhound starter Chris Lansberrry went five innings and struck out five batters to earn his seventh win of the year. Senior Kyle Longernecker did not allow an earned run in two innings of relief to earn the save.

Game 2
The nightcap saw a pair of complete games by the two starting pitchers. Brendan Close outdueled Alex Taylor (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) by scattering five hits and striking out three batters. Close was the second Moravian pitcher of the day to record his seventh win of the season.

The game's offense was provided all in the fifth inning by the Greyhounds. Kevin O'Keefe provided the fireworks with a two-RBI double to left center.

The Rangers will look to salvage the series tomorrow with a nine-inning game with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
