BETHLEHEM, Pa. (April 29, 2012) – Moravian (26-14, 14-4 Landmark) completed the regular season sweep of Drew (19-19, 9-9 Landmark) this afternoon with a 10-0 victory at Gillespie Field. The Rangers clinched a playoff spot after the game with a Scranton loss to Catholic University.
The Rangers will enter their first ever Landmark Conference postseason and first conference tournament since 2006. Drew will compete in the tournament as the #4 seed and the defending champion, Greyhounds will be the top seed and serve as the tournament host. The two teams will square off again on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in a double elimination, four-team tournament.
The Greyhounds took advantage of five Ranger errors this afternoon beginning in the bottom of the second inning. A dropped fly ball allowed three runners to score and gave Moravian a 3-0 advantage.
The Greyhounds scored two runs in each of the next three innings to open up a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Moravian starting pitcher, Tommy Mariano went five innings, allowing only four hits to earn his fifth win of the season.
Ranger designated hitter,
Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) went 2-for-4 at the plate, including his eighth double of the year.
The Rangers will wrap up their regular season on Wednesday with a non-conference matchup on Doc Young Field against St. Joseph's.
