Drew Obergfell (Cranford, N.J./Roselle Catholic) had a career-high four hits and drove in two runs to lead the Ranger offense.
Despite the Bears scoring a run in all but two innings, the Rangers used two big innings to earn their second win in as many days.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the fourth, the Rangers took their first lead of the game thanks to a five-run inning. With the first two runners reaching base the Rangers climbed within a run on a safety squeeze by
Chris DelMaestro (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) that scored
Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville). Sophomore
Dominic Reyes (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) gave the Rangers the lead on a two-RBI single making the score, 4-3. The Rangers tacked on two more runs in the frame thanks to an RBI single by
Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and a sacrifice fly by
Pete Tuchol (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood).
The Bears recaptured the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Mike Cundari that scored two runs and gave St. Joseph's a 6-5 advantage. The Rangers went ahead for good in the top of the sixth posting six runs.
Obergfell put the Rangers ahead, 8-7, on a double down the left field line that plated Tuchol and Kowalski. One batter later,
Neil Cashes (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) drove in his first runs of the spring on a two-RBI single up the middle.
Bodden made the score 12-7 with a triple to left that scored
Conrad Clifton (Ashton, Md./Glenelg Country School) and Cashes.
Bodden ended his day going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Kowalski continued his hot hitting going 3-for-6 and scoring two runs. Tuchol, DelMaestro and Clifton each had multiple-hit games to round out the Drew attack.
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to William Paterson for a bout with the Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. in Wayne, N.J.
