HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 6, 2012) – Juniata (10-16, 2-9 Landmark ) took game one of the three-game series, 9-3 thanks to an seven-run second inning. The Rangers bounced back in the nightcap with a 9-6 victory, improving them to 12-10 on the season and 3-5 in Landmark Conference play.
Senior
Steven DeBonis (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) led the Ranger offense racking up four hits and driving in two runs.
Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) went 3-for-7 with four runs and three stolen bases in game one.
Game 1
The Rangers were the beneficiaries of a Juniata error in the top of the first inning. A mishap on a ground ball to second off the bat of
Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) brought home Bodden for the game's first run.
From that point forward the majority of the offense came from the bats of Juniata. After tying the game up in the bottom of the first, the Eagles posted seven runs in their next turn at the plate. The inning was capped off by a two-out, three-run double by Derek Heath, making it a 8-1 Juniata advantage.
Freshman
Matthew Hunter came on to pitch for the Rangers in the second inning and allowed only one run over four and one third innings work. Two more Eagle errors led to Rangers runs in the top of the third and fifth.
Game 2
The Ranger offense did the damage early in the second game. In their first at bat. The Rangers sent twelve batters to the plate and scored eight runs. Doubles by
Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), Bodden and DeBonis plated four of the eight runs.
Junior
Pat Rock (Cranston, R.I./Providence Country Day) came on to relieve Drew starter
Alex Taylor (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) and shut the door on the Eagle offense. Rock got the Rangers out of a bases loaded jam in the in the bottom of the fifth and pitched two more scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the season.
The two teams will play the rubber match tomorrow in a nine-inning game at 12:00 p.m.
