Rangers Draw Hosts Kean in First Round of NCAA Tournament

MADISON, N.J. (May 14, 2012) - The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee announced this morning the 56 teams that will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. Recipients of an automatic berth, Drew University, will take on Kean University on Wednesday at FirstEngergy Park in Lakewood, N.J. at 7:45 p.m.

Drew was one of 38 teams to receive an automatic bid after winning its first Landmark Conference Championship a week ago. The Rangers will be the seventh seed in the Mid-Atlantic Regional and square off against second seed and host Kean University. The double-elimination regional round will be played at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, N.J., home of the Philadelphia Phillies Single-A affiliate, the Lakewood Blue Claws.

The six other schools competing in the Mid-Atlantic Regional include: Keystone College, Ramapo College, Alvernia University, Neumann College, Haverford College and Daniel Webster College.

The Rangers entered the Landmark Conference Tournament last weekend as the fourth seed and won all three games to claim the program's first Landmark crown. In Monday's championship game, senior Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) hit a walk-off, solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Rangers to the NCAA Tournament.

First-year Head Coach Brian Hirschberg has led the Rangers to 22 wins this season, the second most in school history. Last week he was named the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year and the New Jersey College Baseball Association co-Coach of the Year. The Rangers had a program-high, three players named to the All-Conference Team including first team selection, Pat Rock (Cranston, R.I./Providence Country Day).
