(May 17, 2012) – Haverford (25-18) scored 10 unanswered runs and eliminated Drew (22-21) from the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with an 11-9 victory in 12 innings at FirstEnergy Park this afternoon. The Rangers jumped out to a 9-1 lead after five innings but the Fords came all the way back to advance to in the loser's bracket.

The Fords tied the game up in top of the ninth inning with two runs to make the score 9-9. After recording his third hit of the game, Nick Miranda scored on an RBI single by Justin Coulter. Haverford tied the game up two batters later on a safety squeeze play executed by the Ford clean-up hitter, Casey Roll.

The two teams went scoreless over the next two innings until Haverford broke the 9-9 tie in the top of the 12th inning. Alex Hudak led off the frame with a single and was quickly sacrificed over by the next batter Matt Liscovitz. Three batters later Hudak came around on an RBI single by Miranda. The Fords took a two run lead on a pinch-hit single by Marly Randazzo.

The Rangers did not go down quietly in the bottom of the 12th putting two runners aboard. Senior Tom Murray (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) kept hopes alive with a two-out single to right field. The Ranger designated hitter went 2-for-6 with an RBI in his final game in a Drew uniform. The next batter, classmate Pete Tuchol (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood), reached on an error by the first baseman allowing both Tuchol and pinch runner Michael Scarzafava (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park) to move to second and third. The late rally ended on the next pitch which was grounded to the third baseman for the final out of the game.

Drew built a 9-1 lead by scoring in four of the first five innings. The game really took a turn in the Rangers favor after a four-run fifth inning. DeBonis concluded his Ranger career with a 3-for-6 effort at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in a game-high four. Catcher Matthew Kaplon had a season-high three hits in the contest and scored a team-high three runs.

Sophomore Alex Taylor (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) put together another solid outing on the mound, going eight innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out three batters.

The Rangers season ends falling one win shy of tying a school record. The Mid-Atlantic Regional was the first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
