Box Score
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (May 6, 2012) – Sophomore
Alex Taylor (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over Merchant Marine (21-14) this afternoon. Drew (21-19) needs one win tomorrow for the program's first ever Landmark Conference Championship.
Taylor recorded his fifth win of the season and pitched his second-career nine inning complete game. The sophomore fanned seven batters and scattered just four hits on a Mariner offense that averaged over six runs a game coming into the contest. He allowed only one Merchant Marine runner past second base over his nine innings of work.
The Rangers got on the scoreboard in their first turn at the plate after a lead-off walk by junior
Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan). Two batters later, with two outs, senior
Pete Tuchol (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) delivered an RBI single down the right field line to put the Rangers up 1-0.
Bodden, who had four hits in yesterday's contest, found himself in the middle of another Ranger rally in the fifth. With one out he lined a double down the left field line and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. The next batter,
Steven DeBonis (Hamilton, N.J./ Nottingham) grounded a ball to third base in which the throw came to the plate and Bodden slid safely under the tag.
The two Ranger runs were all that Taylor would need as he allowed only one hit over the last four innings. Bodden finished the day, 2-for-4 with two runs scored and is now 6-for-10 in the postseason.
Michael Chiarella (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) also had a two-hit performance, going 2-for-4 on the day.
The Rangers will play the tops seed Moravian tomorrow afternoon for the second time in three days.. The first pitch for tomorrow's game is set for 11:00 a.m. The final game of the Landmark postseason, if necessary, will be played at 2:30 p.m., both at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa.
