Hirschberg Coach of the Year, Three on All-Conference Team

MADISON, N.J. (May 8, 2012) – First-year Head Coach Brian Hirschberg was announced today as the Landmark Coach of the Year after guiding the Rangers to their first Landmark Conference Playoff berth. Reliever Pat Rock (Cranston, R.I./Providence Country Day) was a First Team All-Conference selection while Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and Steven DeBonis (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) were listed on the second team.

Picked to finish seventh in the Landmark Conference preseason poll and coming off just one conference win a year ago, Hirschberg guided the Rangers to their first ever Landmark Conference postseason appearance. The Rangers finished with a school-record, nine conference wins and a 19-19 regular season record. Entering the conference tournament as the fourth seed, the Rangers went on to upset top-seeded Moravian in extra innings in round one and shut down second seed Merchant Marine in round two. In the championship round, the Rangers took home the title thanks to a walk-off home run by senior Tom Murray in the bottom of the ninth inning to clinch the school's first ever NCAA Tournament berth. At 22 wins, including postseason play, the Rangers are one win away from tying a school record.

Rock had a breakout season for the Rangers, having a hand in 13 of the Rangers 21 wins this season. He led the Landmark Conference with a 1.24 ERA in the regular season. The junior recorded five regular season wins and had a league-high six saves. The Ranger closer struck out 23 batters in 35 inning of work and walked only 10 batters. In postseason play, Rock was credited with two of the three wins including the 11-inning, first round thriller.

Second Team
Bodden, the Drew leadoff man, served as the Rangers offensive catalyst in 2012. He led Landmark Conference for the second-straight season in stolen bases, swiping 19 bags. The Drew left fielder led the league in walks and ranked 26 in the entire country with 29. He was second in the league in runs scored with 42 and was named Landmark Player of the Week twice this season. He caught fire in the conference postseason reaching base 11 times and collecting eight hits in 14 at bats. He scored five of the Rangers 17 runs in the playoffs.

DeBonis made the transition from outfield to first base in his senior season and went on to lead the Landmark Conference in put outs with 320. He boasted .982 fielding percentage which led the Rangers in his first full season at the position. At the plate, DeBonis batted .328 with 43 hits and 11 RBIs. One of the Rangers most versatile hitters batting in the two position, he ranked 40th nationally in sacrifice bunts. He added two doubles, a triple and 22 walks this season.

Prior to this season, the Rangers had only one other player voted to either All-Conference team since 2008.
