Box Score HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (August 31, 2012) – St. John Fisher College (1-0) built a 2-0 lead in the first half and never looked back in a season-opening, 5-2 victory over the Rangers this afternoon. Drew (0-1) suffers their third-straight loss in the Cyclone Classic hosted annually by Centenary College.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in just 14 minutes of play on goals by Chelsea Oberkrieser and Alex Rohloff. Both players added assists in the first half of paly to fuel a hot start by St. John Fisher. Drew got on the scoreboard on the first collegiate goal by freshman
Emma Campbell (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) in the 35
th minute to make the score 2-1 after the first 45 minutes of play.
St. John Fisher started the second half much like the first, scoring two more goals including the second of the day by Rohloff. Both Cardinal goals were scored just 2:06 apart and gave St. John Fisher a commanding 4-1 lead.
Senior captain
Courtney Carnevale (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) added an unassisted goal in the 66
th minute to bring the Rangers within two goals but would not be enough. The Cardinals sealed the game a little over ten minutes later on a goal by Val Hanson.
Both teams took 13 shots and Drew held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow in the conclusion of the Cyclone Classic when they play tournament host, Centenary at 3:00 p.m.
