Castro Scores a Pair in First Conference Victory

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (September 29, 2012) – Junior Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) totaled five points in a 3-0 victory over conference foe Moravian College (3-6-1, 0-2 Landmark) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. With the win, Drew improves to 6-2-2 on the year and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play.

The Rangers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard tallying two goals in the first eight minutes of the contest. Castro opened the scoring just 5:31 into the game off a perfect cross by Michael Jacques (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro-North) to put the Rangers up 1-0.

Just under two minutes later Castro sent a leading pass to Tommy Tolve (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) who cleared past the Moravian defense and beat the Greyhound keeper one-on-one situation inside the box. Castro capped off the day's scoring after getting a gift pass from a Moravian defender near the top of the box in which he volleyed off his chest and one touched it with his right foot into the left side of the net.

Senior Rich Boland (North Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown) and Michael Reyes ( Delran, N.J/Delran) combined for the sixth shutout of the season for the Rangers. Boland made a game-high four saves in 75 minutes of work while Reyes made two stops to close out the Drew victory.

The Rangers will be home again on Wednesday as part of a field hockey/men's soccer doubleheader against Ramapo in Ranger Stadium. Men's soccer will play the nightcap with the game slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
