Strong Second Half Leads Rangers Past Hawks

Box Score NEWARK, N.J. (September 8, 2012)- The Drew men's soccer team improved to 2-1-1 on the season with 3-0 victory over Hunter College (0-4) this afternoon in the first round of the Scarlet Raider Classic hosted by Rutgers-Newark.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Rangers rattled off three second half goals for their first road victory of 2012. Drew broke the scoring stalemate in the 64th minute on a a goal by Tommy Tolve (Nutley, N.J./Nutley).  Freshman Luis Baca (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) fed a running Tolve from the back line who beat the Hawk keeper to the left hand side of the goal.
 
The Rangers tacked on two more goals in five minute span beginning with the second assist by Baca on a Philip Mabika (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) goal in the 73rd minute. Sophomore Daniel Ratyniak (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) notched his second goal of the year in the 77th minute on an assist by Tyler DeTrude (Brentwood, Tenn./Immaculata) to cap off the Rangers scoring.
 
In net for Drew was sophomore Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) who made three saves for his third career shutout.
 
Drew outshot Hunter 30-3 and took 16 corners compared to just one by the Hawks.
 
The Rangers will look to capture the Scarlet Raider Classic Championship tomorrow when they take on York (N.Y.) at noon.
