Castro's Two Goals Give Rangers First Conference Win

Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. (October 13, 2013)—The Drew University men's soccer team (8-3-2, 1-1-1 Landmark) collected its first conference victory by defeating Moravian (6-5-2, 0-3 Landmark), 2-0  this afternoon. Senior midfielder Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) scored both goals for the Rangers in the contest.

Castro gave the Rangers an early 1-0 lead just five minutes into the first half when his corner kick deflected off the goalkeeper's hands and trickled in to the back of the net. The goal was Castro's third of the season. Drew controlled the ball for most of the first half taking nine shots and only allowing three. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead into the half.

The Rangers picked up where the left off in the second half, firing shot after shot at the Moravian defensive front. In the 78th minute Castro smashed home a free kick from just outside the box for his second goal of the match.

The Rangers back line continued to play strong on the defensive half of the field. They allowed just five total shots from the Greyhound attack and only one corner kick attempt for the game. Junior goalkeeper Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) collected his eighth win of the season, his Landmark leading fifth shutout of the season and made three saves in the Ranger victory. With his start in today's match Reyes tallied the 29th start of his career making him ninth on the Rangers all-time list.
