Rangers and Gophers Play to 1-1 draw

Box Score Madison, N.J. (October 19, 2013)—The Drew University men's soccer team (9-3-3) tied Goucher College, 1-1 this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers are now 1-1-2 in conference play.

The Rangers scored the first goal of the contest off the foot of senior midfielder Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) who buried a free kick from 20 yards in the upper right corner of the net. Goucher answered with a header goal from Luis Gomes in the 40th minute. Drew and Goucher entered the half tied at one.

The Ranger offense was on the attack out-shooting the Gophers 10-5 in the second half and overtime periods. The best opportunity for Drew to pull away came in the 64th minute when a header from senior Matthew Gragnano (Hazlet, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) off the cross of junior Tom Tolve (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) beat the goalkeeper and hit the post.

Junior Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) started his 15th game in net for the Rangers and played all 110 minutes. Reyes recorded 5 saves and surrendered one goal.

Drew takes the field again on Wednesday night as they travel to Long Island for a conference match with the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Last season Drew defeated USMMA 3-0, and holds the all-time series advantage 15-9-4.
