Field Hockey Sets Goals Record in Rout of Ramapo

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 2, 2013) – The 18th-ranked Drew University field hockey team scored a school-record, 12 goals in a 12-1 victory over Ramapo (0-9) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. Senior Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) scored a career-high four goals, helping the Rangers improve to 9-0 on the season.

The Rangers broke the school record for goals in a game previously set in 1989 in an 11-0 victory over Delaware Valley. Drew tallied 28 points in the contest, tying the school record set in 2009 against Sweet Briar.

Sophomore Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) scored twice in the contest, upping her season total to a Landmark Conference-leading, 14 on the season. She has scored in the last six games and marks her fourth, multiple score effort of the year. Sophomore Kirby Clark (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) also collected a pair of goals in the contest for her third and fourth goals of the season.

Junior Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, N.J./Saucon Valley) had herself a career day, registering four points on a goal and two assists. Her final assist was her 20th of her career, tying her with teammate Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) for 10th on Drew's all-time assist list. Waleko scored the record-breaking goal with 6:46 remaining in the game for her fourth of the season.
Sophomore Amber De Marco (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) also had a career day with a goal and an assist. Classmate Bea Cannavale (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) rounded out the Rangers scoring with a reverse hit goal late in the second half the tucked into the top right corner of the cage. The goal was her third of the season.

Ramapo scored the game's first goal of the night when they were awarded a penalty stroke, 6:48 into the contest. Freshman Nicole Healy converted the try to give the Roadrunners their only lead of the game. The Rangers rattled off the next 12 goals, six in each half. Drew fired a total of 59 shots compared to just four by Ramapo. The Rangers also held a 27-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Roadrunner goalkeeper Alicia Lyons made35 saves, playing all 70 minutes in cage. Sophomore Sarah Stewart (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) saw a season-high 44 minutes in cage for the Rangers, only facing one shot.

The Rangers will continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Susquehanna. Game time in Selinsgrove, Pa. is set for 1:00 p.m.
