Rangers Blank FDU to Take Madison Ave Crown

Box Score MADISON N.J. (October 29, 2013) – The Drew University women's soccer team defeated cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson (9-10) by the score of 3-0 tonight at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers completed the fall season sweep of the Devils with previous victories this fall by men's soccer and field hockey.

The Rangers scored three times in the first half of play helping the squad improve to 14-2 on the season. It marks the fifth time in school history, all under Head Coach Christa Racine, that the women's soccer program has reached the 14-win plateau.

The Drew defense was stout, recording its fourth shutout of the season. Sophomore Sara Nash (Kingston, Wash./Kingston) got the start in goal and made a career-high nine saves. It was the most stops of any Drew keeper this season.

Sophomore Emma Campbell (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) scored the game's first goal just 3:45 into the game off a cross from senior Katie O'Keefe (Shamong, N.J./Seneca). The assist was O'Keefe's eighth of the season and 24th of her career.

Senior Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J./Pope John XXIII) got in on the scoring action in the 11th minute, dribbling by a Devil defender and firing her third goal of the season into the back of the net. Less than five minutes later, senior Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) added to her Landmark Conference goal lead with her 15th of the season. Campbell was credited with the assist on the final score of the night.

The Devils had their chances on net but were stoned all nine times by Nash. The Rangers held a 14-12 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Drew now owns a 15-5-1 overall record against their cross-street rivals and has won the last five matchups dating back to 2010.

The Rangers will travel to Juniata on Saturday afternoon for a crucial Landmark Conference matchup. With a win, Drew will guarantee a first round home game in the league playoffs next Wednesday. A win by the Rangers and a loss or tie by Scranton against Catholic gives the Rangers the #1 seed. Game time in Huntingdon is set for 1:00 p.m.
