MADISON, N.J. – (November 13, 2013) – The Alvernia University Crusaders (12-7) scored 4:31 into overtime to defeating the top-seeded Drew University field hockey team, 4-3 in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament this evening at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers end their 2013 campaign with an overall record of 16-4.

Alvernia scored the game's final three goals, erasing a 3-1, second-half deficit. Sophomore Emily Kelly scored the game-winner, advancing the Crusaders to the semifinals where they will take on Kean University on Saturday.

Prior to the Alvernia second half comeback sophomore Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) put the Rangers up 2-1 in the 30th minute. In the process she set a new school record for goals in a season, with 28 and points in a season with 63. To start the second half, Barcia added to the Ranger lead and her season scoring record by cleaning up a rebound in front of the cage, making the score 3-1 with 21:04 to play.

The Crusaders went on to outshoot the Rangers in the second half, 9-6. Alvernia pulled within one when Alexis Klopp had her blast carom off goalkeeper CC Carlini's (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) stick into the top part of the cage. The Crusaders tied the game with 4:34 left in the contest on the second goal of the night by Margaret Wentzel.

Alvernia goalkeeper Erin Wunsch made 12 saves in nearly 75 minutes of work in cage. Carlini finished the night with four saves. Sophomore Amber De Marco (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) was credited with her second defensive save of the season midway through the second half.

Sophomore Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) scored her third goal of the season in the contest. Senior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) tallied her 18th assist sliding a pass over to Boyd who gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Waleko finishes the year with 18 assists, tied for the second most ever in a season by a Drew field hockey player.

Tonight marked only the second time the two schools have met, both coming in the ECAC Tournament. The Rangers, who came within a goal of winning the 2010 title, are 4-13 all-time in the postseason event.
