MONTCLAIR, N.J. (November 8, 2013) – The Montclair State Red Hawks took both the men's and women's swimming battles this evening in the annual in-state battle. The Monclair women (2-2) were able to get by the Rangers, 144-112 while the Red Hawk men (2-2) defeated Drew, 144-86.

The Drew women fall to 1-2 on the season while the men are still seeking their first win at 0-3. The Red Hawks have taken the last 11 matchups from the two Ranger squads.

Seniors
Alexa Morrissey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) and J
ess Harrington (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) each won a pair of events for the Rangers. Morrissey set a new personal best and turned in the fourth-fastest time of the season in the 200 individual medley. She came in with a time of 2:21.91, the fifth-fastest in school history. Morrissey also touched first in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 58.42.

Harrington was a double-event winner for the third-straight meet. She opened up her evening with a win in the 50 freestyle. She and freshman teammate
Tori Braun (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) finished 1-2 with times of 30.01 and 30.83 respectively. Harrington just nearly missed her season best in the 100 backstroke, winning with a time of 1:04.46

Senior
Mariel Schwinger (Los Angeles, Calif./Sherman Oaks) was .36 off her season-best time set in last week's meet against Mount Saint Mary's College in the 200 freestyle. She won the race with a time of 2:05.92.

For the men,
Austin Goetjen (Simsbury, Conn./Avon Old Farms School) was the lone race-winner in the meet. The senior placed first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.36.

The Rangers will return home tomorrow and open up their Landmark Conference schedule against Marywood. The meet is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start at F.M. Kirby Pool.
