Offense Explodes as Rangers Win Fourth-Straight

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 13, 2013) – The Drew University softball team combined for 24 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Medaille College (3-4) and New Jersey City University (3-3) this morning. The Rangers defeated Medaille, 14-2 and topped New Jersey City, 10-1 to even their record to 4-4 on the season.

Game 1
Freshman Kristin Zeigler (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) won her first career game pitching five innings and surrendering only two hits. The first-year pitcher struck out two and recorded her first career hit in the contest.

Junior Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) led the Rangers, going 3-for-4 with two RBis and three runs scored. Casey Reggiani (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park), Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Twp.) and Jeramie Barletta each recorded multiple-hit efforts in the victory.

The Rangers opened the game up by putting five runs on the board in the top half of the first inning. Drew took advantage of three errors in the first frame by Medaille and received RBI singles from Kate McNamara (Levitttown, N.Y./MacArthur) and Helen Mustafa (Union City, N.J./Union City).

The game was blown open in the top of the fifth inning as the Rangers scored a season-high seven runs. The inning was highlighted by Forsell who ripped a RBI double to left center field.

Game 2
The Rangers compiled the first nine runs of the game in their first two at bats. Drew sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning and was powered with RBIs from Barletta and Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.).

Benedict pitched all five innings for the Rangers allowing only one run on five hits while striking out three. The sophomore recorded her first win of the year, moving her record to 1-1.

The Drew offense batted around in the second inning and was issued five walks in the frame. Barletta drove in the second of her game-high three RBIs. She finished the game going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

The Rangers will take on St. Joseph's Brooklyn at 9:00 a.m. and will follow up with a matchup against Bridgewater St. at 11:00 a.m.
