Cardinals Complete Series Sweep of Rangers

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 24, 2013) – The Catholic University (15-6, 4-2 Landmark) defense allowed only one, unearned run on the day, in an 8-1 victory, clinching a series sweep of Drew (5-7, 0-3 Landmark) this afternoon. The Cardinal pitching staff limited the Rangers to just seven runs in 23 innings over the course of the three-game set.

Four of the Rangers eight hits on the afternoon came off the bats of J.C. Rasic (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) and Al Krause (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus). Rasic was 2-for-5 and Krause put together his third multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a walk.

The Cardinals did the majority of their damage in the in the bottom of the third inning. Each of the four runs in the frame came unearned after an error prolonged the inning enabling the Cardinals to jump out to a 5-0 lead after three innings.

The Rangers only run of the afternoon came off the bat of Matthew Kaplon (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) on an RBI single in the top of the sixth, scoring Anthony Feltre (South Brunswick, N.J./Metuchen).

Cardinal starter Colin Kelly pitched 6.2 innings and scattered seven hits while striking out three to earn the win. The loss was charged to Ken Myers (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) who pitched into the fourth inning and was charged with only two of the six runs allowed.

The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday to take on Centenary College. The game will be played at Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J. at 4:00 p.m.
