The doubleheader split improves the Rangers to 8-6 on the season and drops William Paterson to 4-8. The Drew win over the in-state foe is  the first since 2005, as the Pioneers own a 12-2 all-time record against the Rangers.

Game 1
Sophomore pitcher Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Twp.) was masterful over eight innings, tossing her second, complete game shutout of the season. She allowed only four hits in the contest and struck out five.

Going into the eighth inning, both teams only combined for nine hits until the Rangers exploded for five runs on four hits in their final at bat. With a runner on second to start the inning via the international tiebreaker rule, the Rangers got a break on a pioneer error putting runners on first and third with no outs.

D'Ornellas helped her own cause by driving home the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice, scoring Antoinette Tovar (South El Monte, Calif./South El Monte). The next batter, Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) made the score 2-0 in an RBI single up the middle. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Casey Reggiani (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park), when she doubled in a pair of runs, giving the Rangers a 4-0 advantage.

Kate McNamara (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) supplied the final hit of the inning, bringing home Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.). The eighth inning, hit was the third of the game for McNamara, tying a career-high.

Game 2
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring a run in each of their first two at bats. The Rangers finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, taking advantage of a William Paterson error, scoring senior Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison).

After the Pioneers extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom half of the inning, Barletta pulled the Rangers within two runs with an RBI single to right field. Barletta finished the game, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Rangers could not muster another hit after the single by Barletta in the sixth. Kaerrin Dys went all seven innings to earn her first win of the spring for William Paterson.

Drew will be home tomorrow against another in-state opponent in Rutgers-Newark. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Madison.
