Box Score 2 MADISON, N.J. (March 28, 2013) – The Drew offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, aiding in an 8-1 game one victory over Rutgers-Newark (5-9). The Scarlet Raiders got a strong pitching performance from Liane Drastal, winning the nightcap 2-0.
The Drew softball team's record moves to 9-7 on the spring as the Rangers earn their third consecutive doubleheader split.
Game 1
Sophomore
Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Twp.) was a strikeout shy of her season high, fanning six batters en route to her fifth win of the year. She tossed her sixth complete game of the season and scattered five Scarlet Raider hits.
The Ranger offense was held in check all the way up until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rangers sent 11 batters to the plate, racked up five hits and took advantage of two Rutgers-Newark errors.
Sophomore
Antoinette Tovar (South El Monte, Calif./South El Monte) singled up the middle scoring the first two runs of the game. A batter later,
Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro) sent her 26
th career double into centerfield scoring the Rangers fifth run of the frame. Senior
Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) then cleared the bases with the team's first triple of the season scoring two more runs to make the score, 7-0.

Kate McNamara (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) each put together multiple-hit efforts in the contest.
Gabby Spinella, doubled home the only Rutgers-Newark run in the top of the sixth, and was
2-for-3 on the afternoon.
Game 2
The Rangers couldn't break open a big inning in game two, stranding 11 runners on base. Scarlet Raider starting pitcher, Liane Drastal fought through an 11-hit shutout for Rutgers-Newark and recorded two strikeouts.
Drew left the bases loaded in three separate innings, including in their final at bat with no outs. Sophomore
Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) was 3-for-4 in the game with a walk while Forsell and Barletta each had two hits for the Ranger offense.
Spinella, who came into the game batting .500 was once again a factor in the nightcap. The Scarlet Raider catcher doubled home the game's first run in the top of the first. The only other run of the game came in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Monica Bagan.
Sophomore
Amy Benedict (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) struck out a season-high six batters and pitched all seven innings for the Rangers.
Drew will continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they take on Juniata on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Madison.
