Box Score MADISON, N.J. (April 10, 2013) – The Drew University baseball team was defeated, 8-2 by the Stevens Institute of Technology (12-12) this afternoon on Doc Young Field. The Ducks snap a five-game losing streak with the win and the Rangers fall to 9-16 on the season.
The Ducks scored seven runs in their final three turns at the plate for their first road win since March 23
rd. Stevens was powered by Ryan Manello and Dan Allen who both went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Starting pitcher Robert Robbins pitched five innings, striking out five and walking none to earn the victory.
For the Rangers, sophomore
Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Senior
Michael Bodden (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and junior
Matthew Kaplon (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) each put together multiple-hit efforts in the contest.
The Ducks plated the first runner of the game in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Manello. The Rangers responded by taking their only lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior
Justin Mancini (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland Regional) was hit by a pitch for the 14
th time this season to lead off the inning. He came around a batter later on an RBI double by Kowalski. A batter later Bodden drove in Kowalski for his 14
th RBI of the season.
Stevens went on to score seven unanswered runs between the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The game was delayed 30 minutes in between the seventh and eighth innings but it didn't slow down the Duck offense. The Rangers surrendered three runs in the eighth one off an RBI single to center field by Brian Hennelly and two off a Drew error.
The Rangers will be on the road this weekend to continue Landmark Conference play against Susquehanna. The doubleheader on Saturday will begin at 1:00 p.m.
