Rangers Take Landmark Series with Sunday Victory

Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. (April 14, 2013) – The Drew baseball team captured its first series victory of the season with a 8-4 win over Susquehanna (12-18, 6-6 Landmark) in rubber game of a three game set. The Rangers improve to 11-17 on the season and 4-8 in Landmark Conference play.
 
Sophomore Al Krause (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Rangers. Dominic Reyes (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris and Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) each had two hits in the contest for Drew.
 
The Susquehanna offense was held to just five hits, two coming from catcher Greg Stellon. Drew starting pitcher, Ken Myers (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) went six and third innings and struck out five for his third victory of the spring. Seniors Tom Koontz (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) and Pat Rock combined for three innings of scoreless baseball to preserve the win.
 
The difference in the contest proved to be a four-run third inning in which the Rangers opened up a 5-2 lead. A two-out rally was highlighted by a two-RBI single by Matthew Kaplon (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) and a infield single by Krause that scored the fifth run of the game.
 
The Crusaders scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within a run. Koontz stranded the tying run on base by striking out pinch hitter Kyle Semmel.
 
The Rangers tacked on three more runs the top of the eighth, extending their lead to 8-4. Krause's double scored Justin Mancini (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland Regional) giving Drew a two-run advantage. Three-straight singles by Reyes, Kowalski and Anthony Feltre (South Brunswick, N.J./Metuchen) brought home two more runs in the frame.
 
Mancini scored two of the eight runs in the contest and now has safely reached base in 16-straight games.
 
The Rangers will host Ramapo College on Tuesday on Doc Young Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
