Box Score 2 MADISON, N.J. (April 16, 2013) – Junior
Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) became the school's all-time doubles leader today with three doubles in game one of a doubleheader against cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson this afternoon.
Fairleigh Dickinson (17-13) won a pair of one-run games to win the annual Battle of Madison Ave. The Devils took game one, 6-5 and held on in game two, 4-3 to complete the sweep of Drew (11-19).
Forsell broke former teammate, Jillian Lusk's all-time record of 29 doubles in her first at bat of the day and tied a career-high by registering a total of three two-baggers in the contest. The junior was a tough out, going 5-for-7 with three runs scored and an RBI on the afternoon.
Game 1
FDU set the tone for the game early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Devils sent nine batters to the plate and got RBI hits from Kristie Crilley and Karla Babb.
The Rangers chipped away at the FDU lead with a run in the top of the second off a
Casey Reggiani (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) RBI single and two more runs in the third on the historic double by Forsell.
With the score at 4-3 after two and a half innings, the Devils extended their lead thanks to a solo home run by Crilley and a RBI double by Maggie Murphy.
The Rangers pulled within a run in the top of the seventh on sacrifice fly by
Kate McNamara (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur). The next batter,
Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) singled to centerfield and represented the tying run. She stole second and eventually advanced to third on a wild pitch but was left stranded at third.
FDU's Sydney Worek was credited with the win, pitching a complete game and striking out five batters.
Game 2
The Devils built a 4-0 lead over the first five innings and capped off their scoring on a two-run home run by Sarah Lima in the bottom of the fifth.
The Rangers bats came alive in the top of the sixth, sending eight batters to the plate. Singles by
Antoinette Tovar (South El Monte, Calif./South El Monte),
Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Forsell loaded the bases for McNamara. The sophomore belted a three-run double to left field gap and pulled the Rangers within a run.
The Rangers recorded only one more hit in the contest left a runner on in the top of the seventh.
Tovar was 3-for-4 with a runs scored in the nightcap, establishing a career-high for hits in a game.
The Rangers will be home on Saturday to host Landmark Conference opponent, Susquehanna for a twinbill in Madison beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Rangers will also honor their two seniors,
Jeramie Barletta and
Jennifer Mateo on Saturday.
