Men’s Tennis Historic Win Streak Ends at 110

MADISON, N.J. (April 18, 2013) – The Drew men's tennis team hasn't lost a match against a conference opponent since April 12, 2000, until today. The University of Scranton (8-6, 5-1 Landmark) ended the streak with a 5-4 win in Scranton this afternoon.
 
Despite a 3-0 advantage after doubles play, Drew (5-4, 4-1 Landmark) dropped five of the six singles bouts, losing for the first time to Scranton since the year 2000. Drew gutted out all three doubles wins by two games or less and two of the five singles matches went to three sets.
 
Senior Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley) won 9-7 at first doubles. The duo of Hunter Lathrop (South Londonderry, Vt./Stratton Mountain School) and Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) edged Mike Pannone and Joe Morra, 8-6 at second doubles. Tommy Butschi (Tyler, Texas/New Braunfels) and Vin Mahon (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) rounded out the doubles sweep with a 9-7 win at the third position.
 
Freshman Adam Clark (Fremont, Calif./John F. Kennedy) recorded the only singles win for the Rangers at the six position, winning 7-6, (10-8), 6-0. The match was clinched at third singles by Scranton's Joe Morra who won the final two sets of a three-set match to seal the victory.
 
The Rangers, who have already clinched a playoff berth, will be home on Saturday when they host Moravian at 1:00 p.m.
