Crusaders Outslug Rangers in Landmark Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, N.J. (April 21, 2013) – In the final Landmark Conference doubleheader of season, the Susquehanna Crusaders (26-6) took both games of today's twinbill, 7-2 and 10-0. The Rangers finish their Landmark Conference schedule with a record of 2-6 and are now 11-21 overall.

Susquehanna racked up 25 hits between the two games and got a complete game, one-hit shutout from Ashley Cole in game two.

In between games the Rangers honored seniors Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Jennifer Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City). Barletta is the team leader in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage hits and total bases. She has started 136-straight games at shortstop for the Rangers. Mateo is the program's all-time leader in stolen bases with 48.

Game 1
The Crusaders opened up a 6-0 lead after a three-run fourth inning. A two-RBI double by Alyssa Cantalini was the highlight of the inning. She was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning. Barletta led the frame off with an infield single and came in on a triple by Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro).  The next batter, Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) brought Forsell in on a sacrifice fly.

The two runs proved to be they only two that the Rangers could scratch across on Susquehanna pitcher Morgan Lewis. The right-hander tossed a complete game and struck out seven batters.

Kathryn Gilbert and Madison Clark each went 2-for-3 for the Crusdaders

Game 2
The nightcap was highlighted by an outstanding pitching performance by Ashley Cole. She had her no-hitter through five innings until Kristin Zeigler (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) flared a single into left field. She struck out nine batters and did not walk a batter in six innings of work.

The Susquehanna offense supplied plenty of run support scoring in all but one inning. The Crusaders scored four runs in top of the second and capped off their big offensive game with three runs in the top of the sixth.

The Crusaders racked up six doubles and a triple in the contest. Two of the doubles came off the bat of Clark who was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

The Rangers will be on the Road on Tuesday when they travel to Hackettstown, N.J. for a double dip with Centenary College.
