Box Score MADISON, N.J. (April 24, 2013) – In the baseball edition of the Battle of Madison Ave., Fairleigh Dickinson (15-18) belted five home runs in a 12-3 victory over Drew University this afternoon. The Rangers six-game win streak comes to a close as they fall to 17-19 on the season.
Junior second baseman
Nick Meoli went 2-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBI while senior outfielder
Nick Core, junior designated hitter
Ben Lyman, and sophomore outfielder
James Dertouzos drove in two runs apiece to lead the College at Florham Devils.
The Devils pitching staff held the Rangers to just seven hits. Four the Rangers seven hits came off the bats of
Robert Auletti (Deer Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and
Al Krause (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus). Krause was 2-for-3 with run scored while Auletti caught all nine innings and went 2-for-4.
Meoli kicked off the game's scoring with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first. The Rangers took the lead in the top of the second, taking advantage of a two-run, outfield error on a single by Auletti.
That would be the closest the Rangers would get as FDU scored the next 10 runs over the next five innings. The Devils plated three runs in the top of the second thanks to a two-RBI double by Lyman and a RBI single by Dertouzos. In the fourth, four runners came across as Meoli and Frank LaGuarina hit back-to-back homers.
Pinch-hitter Dave Stearns capped the day's scoring on his solo blast in the top of the eighth.
The Rangers used six pitchers in the contest while the Devils sent five to the hill. The Drew bullpen surrendered only three hits over the final four innings of work.
Drew will be at home to wrap up its Landmark Conference schedule on Saturday beginning with a twinbill against Moravian at 1:00 p.m.
