Ospreys Soar Past Rangers in Season Finale Behind Strong Pitching

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, N.J. (April 25, 2013) – The Richard Stockton softball team shut down the Rangers offense today, allowing just three hits in a doubleheader sweep this afternoon. The Ospreys took game one, 2-0 and ended game two in five innings with the score, 8-0.

Drew ends their season with a record of 11-25 while Stockton improves to 28-9 with the two wins.

Stockton came into the game ranked number two in the country in ERA and it showed as they did not surrender a run in 12 innings of play. The two Stockton starters combined for 19 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

Game 1
The Ospreys captured game one thanks to an outstanding pitching performance by Michelle Pietrocola who tossed a complete game shutout. The junior struck out 15 batters en route to her 14th victory of the spring. The Rangers managed only one hit and Pietrocola issued one walk in the contest.

Stockton scratched two runs across on Drew starter Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Twp.) with only one of them earned. Nicole Chabak broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth on a pinch-hit double that scored Grace long. A single by catcher Nicole Scanlon in the top of the fifth gave the Ospreys a 2-0 lead and that would be all the run support Stockton needed.

Scanlon was 2-for-4 with an RBi in the contest. Lead-off batter Nicole Tomo also collected two hits and scored the second run of the game.

Senior Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) recorded the Rangers only hit in the game, going 1-for-3 .

Game 2
Stockton starting pitcher Brittany Ksiezopolski faced only 17 batters and sat down the first 11 Rangers en route to her 13th win of the season. She struck out four batters and did issue a walk in five innings of work.

The Osprey offense backed their starting pitcher in a big way, racking up 16 hits in the contest. After leading 1-0 after two innings, Stockton broke through with four runs in the top of the third. The first three batters singled to load the bases and the Rangers defense recorded the next two outs without giving up a run. A four-run, two-out rally ensued with the big hit coming off the bat of Danielle Kohen that scored two runs.

Stockton scored three runs in their next two turns at the plate to win the game by virtue of the mercy rule.

Barletta once again broke up the no-hitter, drilling a sharp line drive down the left field line for her 44th hit of the season. She finishes the year with a .407 batting average is the first Ranger to bat over .400 in a season since 2007.
