Drew Extends Win Streak Against Rival FDU

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (September 11, 2013) –In front of a raucous crowd at Robert T. Shields Stadium, the Drew University men's soccer team defeated cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-1. The Rangers, who improve to 4-1 on the season, have won the last 30 games against the Devils dating back to 1985.

The Rangers used four, second-half goals to propel them to their 31st victory over the Devils in a series that began in 1980. The 31 total wins against FDU are the most against any other school since the Drew men's soccer program began in 1954.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard with 11:38 remaining in the first half on the first career goal by Joe Sollod (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central). The FDU keeper charged out towards a long ball played by the Drew midfield and deflected it to the center of the field right to the foot of Dylan Hammer (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury). The freshman passed the ball over to the right side where Sollod had a wide-open net for the game's first score.

The 1-0 Drew advantage lasted to the halftime horn. FDU wasted little time knotting the game up. Just 24 seconds into the second half of play, Ryan Hurdes scored, beating a diving Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) to the far left post. The goal snapped a 305-minute scoreless streak by Drew opponents, dating back to August 31 against Johns Hopkins.

The FDU lead didn't last long, as the Rangers cleaned up a rebound with 40:54 remaining in the second half to make the score, 2-1. Senior Eduardo Moran (Mexicali, Mexico/El Cajon) fired a long shot that was saved by Nick Mihalik. The rebound however, was corralled by Tommy Tolve (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) on the near post and passed across to the six-yard line to a wide-open John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) who slammed home the second Drew goal of the night. The score was Nogiewich's second of the season and 12th of his career.

The Rangers began to pour it on late in the second half. Senior RJ Voorman (Wycoff, N.J./Ramapo) scored the game's third goal on a strike from just inside midfield that looped over the outstretched hands of Mihalik. A little under two minutes later, Daniel Ratyniak (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) scored his second goal in as many games off a pass from Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial). Freshman Lendee Henry (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) capped the Rangers scoring with his first career goal with 13:58 remaining in the game.

Reyes was credited with his fourth win of the season, making two saves. The Rangers held a 13-9 shot advantage over the Devils in the contest.

The Rangers will be back at home on Sunday afternoon to take on Manhanttanville at 2:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
