Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 28, 2013) – In outcome that has become monotonous in the past few years, Drew (6-2-1, 0-0-1 Landmark) and Catholic (5-3-2, 0-0-1 Landmark) played to a 1-1 tie this afternoon in the Nation's Capital. The two teams have tied in three of the last four meetings and gone to overtime, five of the last seven times.
Both of the game's goals came early in the first half. The Cardinals got on the scoreboard just 4:39 into the game on a goal by Justin Oloriz. Ian Smith was able to split the Ranger defense with a pass that Oloriz was able to run down and put in the back of the net for his first score of the season.
The Rangers responded a little over 10 minutes later on the throw- in combination of
Michael Pezzuti (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) and
John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South). Pezzuti launched a long throw that found the head of Nogiewich and knotted the game at one.
The two defenses took over from that point forward, neither allowing a goal for the next 94:46 of action. Catholic won the shot battle, outshooting Drew 16-8. Only six of the 16 Cardinal shots went on goal, including the team's lone goal. The Rangers held the advantage on corner kicks, 7-3.
Junior goalkeeper
Michael Reyes (Delran, N.J./Delran) made five saves in the draw while counterpart, Torsten Meuschke stopped four Ranger shots on the afternoon.
The Rangers will return home on Wednesday to host St. Joseph's-Long Island at Ranger Stadium. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
