Strong Second Half Powers Keystone Past Rangers

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (January 4, 2014) – The Drew University women's basketball team fell to Keystone College, 77-68 this afternoon in a makeup game from yesterday's snow storm. The Rangers drop to 8-3 on the season while the Giants improve to 7-2.

Four players were in double figures for the Rangers who were led by 18 points from Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic). She pulled down six rebounds and was 7-of-16 from the floor. Freshman Courtney Trzasko (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 16 points. Junior Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./Berkshire) and senior Logan Cavanaugh (Rutland, Vt./Burr & Burton Academy) chipped in 14 points and 10 points respectively.

The Rangers held a lead of as much as eight late in the first half but the back and forth battle took a turn in favor of Keystone at the 6:18 mark in the second half. The Giants went on a 9-0 run thanks to back-to-back three pointer by Alyssa Cuomo. The run proved to be the difference as the Rangers were unable to recover.

Keystone was able to push the lead as high as 11 in the closing minutes and were able to ice the game down the stretch from the free throw line. The Giants were 15-of-22 from the free throw line in the second half alone. Cuomo finished with a game-high 24 points including a 6-for-9 beyond the arc.

With the help of Cuomo the Giants shot 55 percent from the three point line, going 10-for-18. Chantel Blake chipped in 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting while Jazmyn Robinson added 17 points to pace the Keystone offense.

Despite the point differential, the Rangers dominated the boards, outrebounding the Giants 44-34. Sophomore Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Rangers.

Drew will play its final non-conference contest on Tuesday when Misericorida comes to town. Tip is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
