Rangers Drop Third Game of the Season to Whittier

Box Score Whittier, Calif. (March 11, 2014) – The Drew baseball team (0-3), dropped their third game of the season this afternoon to Whittier, 11-5 on their spring break road trip. Whittier scored four runs in the third inning to open up a, 4-0 lead.

Junior Al Krause (Seacaucus, N.J./Seacaucus) registered two hits in four at bats this afternoon. Krause currently leads the team in hits (5) and batting average (.500). J.C. Rasic (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) went 2-for-4 on the day with a RBI.

After two scoreless innings Whittier struck first in the third inning scoring four runs. After a lead-off walk drawn by Jonathan Whipple, Stephen Zavala stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run homerun. Drew scored their first run of the game in the fifth inning when a Mark Alessio (Nutley, N.J./Paramus Catholic) grounded a ball to the shortstop that scored Matt Kaplon (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) who led off the inning with a single.

Whittier added a combined four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to open up a, 8-1 lead. The Rangers scored three runs in the ninth inning as part of a final inning rally. Krause led off the ninth with a double into left field and scored two batters later on a double from Rob Auletti (Deer Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist (N.Y.)).

Senior Ken Myers (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) made his first start on the mound this season for the Rangers. The senior pitcher went five innings allowed six runs on eight hits and struck out two batters.

The Rangers continue play on Wednesday March 12 at 11:00pst/2:00est as they take on the University of Redlands.
