Box Score Pasadena, Calif. (March 13, 2014) – The Drew baseball team (2-3) picked up its second win in as many days with a, 10-4 victory over the California Institute of Technology (0-14). The Rangers scored a season-high seven runs in the first inning.
Freshman
Ryan Fitzpatrick (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove), made his first career start on the mound for the Rangers in the victory. The freshman pitcher went five innings allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out seven Cal Tech batters on the way to his first career win.
The Rangers offense exploded in the first inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits. Junior
Steve Kowalski (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) lead off the game with an infield single to the third base side. Kowalski stole second and advanced to third on a single from
Anthony Feltre (South Brunswick, N.J./Metuchen). Kowalski and Feltre scored on the very next pitch when sophomore
Bobby Miskura (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) doubled into center field.
Drew added two more runs in the top of the sixth. After a single from senior
Corey Mulligan (Pearl River, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) freshman
Michael Manfra (Montvile, N.J./Montville Twp.) recorded his first career triple to Mulligan.
Mark Alessio (Nutley, N.J./Paramus Catholic) drove home Manfra on the next at-bat.
Manfra finished the day batting 2-for-4 with a triple. The freshman left fielder also scored two runs and recorded two RBIs in the victory. Miskura finished up the day 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
The Rangers take the diamond again on Sunday March 16 as they open up conference play on the road in Pennsylvania. The Rangers face Moravian College at 12:00 p.m.
