Box Score 2 Madison, N.J. (March 20, 2014) – The Drew University softball team swept cross-town rival College of Saint Elizabeth in a two game doubleheader this afternoon. The Rangers won game one 9-1 and game two 3-2.
In game one the Rangers only needed six innings to defeat St. Elizabeth. Drew scored the game's first run in the second inning when freshman 
Phylicia Pellot (Pennsauken, N.J./Camden Catholic) singled into left centerfield. Junior 
Laura D'Ornellas (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) scored on the Pellot single. D'Ornellas reached two batters prior with a two out single.
The Rangers scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 5-0 lead. Freshman 
Meghan McGuire (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central) started the Ranger three-run rally with a single to score Pellot who singled earlier in the inning. McGuire then scored on double from senior 
Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro). Junior 
Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) doubled on the next pitch to plate Forsell. The Rangers added four more runs in the next two innings for the 9-1 victory.
The Screaming Eagles got the scoring started in game two of the doubleheader. With two strikes and two out in the top of the first St. Elizabeth batter Alesandra De Sapio drove a pitch over the fence in left field for a homerun. The Rangers countered scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Pellot doubled into right field to score 
Samantha Foster (Tabernacle, N.J./Senaca) who singled one batter before. Junior 
Antoinette Tovar (South El Monte, Calif./South El Monte) then singled into center field to plate Pellot. The Rangers added insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. The Screaming Eagles added a run in the top of the seventh but could not get any closer.
Laura D'Ornellas pitched the first game of the day for the Rangers. D'Ornellas went all six innings in her third appearance of the season for Drew. She struckout four batters and allowed one run on one hit. Freshman 
Casey Zdanek (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) pitched the second game of the day for the Rangers. Zdanek went seven innings, allowing three hits, earning two runs and striking out eight batters.
Drew returns to action on Saturday March 22. The Rangers play host to Scranton for a doubleheader in their Landmark Conference opener starting at 1:00 p.m.
