Royals and Rangers Split Landmark Softball Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Madison, N.J. (March 22, 2014) – The Drew University softball team (11-3, 1-1) split its Landmark Conference opener this afternoon with Scranton (3-6, 1-1). The Royals picked the win in game one, 7-1 and the Rangers stole game two, 8-3.
 
Senior Lexie Forsell (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) went a combined 4-for-7 on the day scoring three runs. Junior Rebecca Hutseabut (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) finished the day 5-for-7 scoring two runs.
 
Scranton got the scoring started in game one plating a run in the top of the first inning. The Rangers countered in the second inning scoring their only run of the game. Hutsebaut doubled into left field to start the inning and scored two batters later on a single from senior Helen Mustafa (Union City, N.J./Union City). The Royals scored three runs in the third and one run in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for the 7-1 victory.
 
The Rangers took control in game two scoring at least one run in each of the first three innings. Forsell drew a walk with two outs and scored on a double from freshman Emma Agostini (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach). After a Kate McNamara (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) single in the second, freshman Phylicia Pellot (Pennsauken, N.J./Camden Catholic) singled into left field to score McNamara. The Rangers added four more runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead.
 
Sophomore Kristin Zeigler (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) pitched the first game for the Rangers. She went 6.2 innings and allowed 6 runs on nine hits in her first loss of the season. Emma Agostini pitched game two for Drew. Agostini went the complete allowing three runs on eight hits.
 
The Rangers return to action on Wednesday March 26. Drew will play host to William Paterson in a non-conference doubleheader slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
