Box Score 2 HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 13, 2014) – The Drew University softball team (14-12, 2-6) traveled to Huntingdon, Pa. for their second Landmark Conference series in as many days. Drew split the series with Juniata (5-22, 2-6), winning game one 4-1 and dropping game two 8-7. The two teams are part of a three-way tie for fifth place in the Landmark Conference standings.
Freshman
Phylicia Pellot finished the series batting .500 (3-for-6). Pellot drew one walk and scored one run on the afternoon and was one of two Rangers to register a hit in both games. Senior
Lexie Forsell finished the day 2-for-6 from the plate and scored two runs for the Rangers in the split.
The Rangers started the scoring in game one when
Rebecca Hutsebaut hit a ball back to the pitcher that would score Forsell, who led off the game with a single into left center. The Rangers scored their second run of the first when
Meghan McGuire scored on a
Kate McNamara ground ball to the shortshop. Drew jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second on a wild pitch. Juniata answered in the home half of the third pulling within two, 3-1 but would get no closer. The Rangers tacked on an insurance run in the fifth after another Juniata wild pitch scored
Helen Mustafa.Drew continued the scoring in game two picking up their first run in the second inning. Junior
Antoinette Tovar singled into left field to drive home
Emma Agostini who singled earlier in the inning. Juniata scored a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by a Katie Schroeder triple in the third that scored two runs, to take a 7-1 lead heading into the fifth. Drew countered scoring six runs, three coming from a three-run homerun by Mustafa, in their half of the fifth inning tying the game 7-7. Juniata scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth on an Aly Smith single that plated Rachel Smith who drew an early inning walk.
Junior
Laura D'Ornellas pitched game one for Drew of the doubleheader. Laura went the complete game surrendering just one run on five hits, while striking out four batters on the way to her team-leading fifth win of the season. Agostini got the nod in game two going 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits.
Casey Zdanek pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief for the Rangers. Zdanek surrendered just three hits, earned one run and struck out four Juniata batters.
Drew returns to action on April 15 at 3:00 p.m. as they play host to cross-street rival FDU-Florham. Last season the Devils swept the Rangers in a two-game non-conference series.
