MADISON, N.J. (April 24, 2014) – The Drew University athletic department and baseball program will honor former baseball coach and current associate athletic director
Vince Masco by retiring his No. 19 in a ceremony to take place before the Rangers' crucial doubleheader against The University of Scranton on Saturday, April 26 at Doc Young Field.
Masco handed over the reins
in 2012 after leading the program as head coach for 28 years. From 1984-2011, Masco compiled 387 wins and is the all-time leader in coaching victories in school history. He was hired as the 12
th coach of Ranger baseball, and picked up five postseason wins in the process.
Masco led his teams to four MAC and Freedom Conference Tournaments in 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2006. He coached five teams in the ECAC Tournament and made the semifinal round in 1989 and 2000, while leading the Rangers to a runner-up finish in the ECAC Championship game in 1999.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for Saturday's game, which holds massive importance for the baseball squad as they attempt to qualify for the 2014 Landmark Conference Tournament. The former coach will be honored in a pregame ceremony at Doc Young Field beginning at 12:30 p.m. before the Rangers take on Scranton in a doubleheader.
The event coincides with Senior Day, when the Rangers will recognize the service of five outgoing Drew baseball players before the conference battle with the Royals.
