Box Score MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2014) – The Drew University men's soccer team and The College of New Jersey played to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium through persistent rainfall.
TCNJ played the majority of the game with 10 men after starting goalkeeper
Maciej Libucha received a red card in the 31
st minute after an intentional hand ball outside of the penalty box was deemed to disrupt a clear scoring chance for Drew, in the referee's opinion.
Both defenses defined the pace of play on Saturday and 110 minutes of action was not enough to decide a winner. The draw was Drew's second in a row this season and third overall.
The Rangers defense allowed only one shot on goal for the duration of the double-overtime contest as senior goalkeeper
Michael Reyes recorded his 20
th career shutout with one save.
The Lions (3-3-1) defense was also up to the task of shutting down the Rangers attack. Drew only put three of its total 13 shots on frame. Notably, sophomore
Cole Leckburg had one of those shots in the 84
th minute, but the Lions' substitute goalkeeper made a diving save to keep the scoreboard at zeroes. Leckburg had another shot with a minute left in regulation, but his attempt sailed wide.
Drew took the only shots of the overtime periods, one by senior defender
Daniel Giraldo that flew high in the first OT, and two more by senior defenders
Michael Pezzuti and
Robert Hart.
The Rangers head out on a five-game stint away from home on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 p.m. with a trip to Muhlenberg College. Drew's next home game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1:00 p.m. for a Landmark Conference match with Susquehanna University.
