Box Score ALLENTOWN, P.A. (September 17, 2014)-- The Drew University men's soccer team finished 110 minutes of scoreless soccer on Wednesday evening on the campus of Muhlenberg College, earning their fourth tie of the 2014 season.
The Rangers began the game with early offensive fire, with sophomore
Dylan Hammer taking the first shot of the game just three minutes in. Not long after, sophomore
Joe Sollod sent a header above the crossbar off of a corner kick from freshman
Benjamin Audi. The Mules responded with a strong counterattack that produced four shots to close out the first half of the game. Despite the Mules' efforts, senior goalie
Michael Reyes produced two saves to stanch Muhlenberg from getting on the board.
The second half proved to perpetuate stubborn play by the Mules and Rangers and resulted in another 45 minutes of scoreless action. Drew's first scoring opportunity came at the 54 minute mark when freshman
Eduardo Martinez took a shot that went wide of the cage.
Drew controlled most of the possession midway through the second half, but it was not until the 85
th minute when the Rangers took the ball up field after a save by Reyes and Audi fired a shot. Despite a save by Mules' keeper, the Rangers continued their offensive efforts with a corner kick by junior
Matt Sommer, however, the action was short lived before the Mules rebounded to fire an additional shot and secured a corner kick to close out the second half.
In the first period of overtime, the Rangers and Mules went back and forth before the Mules produced a shot that was saved by Reyes with just a minute and a half left in the period.
The Rangers entered the second overtime on the defensive, controlling the majority of the ten minute period, with the exception of three early shots by the Mules in the first five minutes that led to two crucial saves by Reyes to preserve the scoreless game. The Rangers responded with two shots late in the period. Martinez sent one high of the cage, before sophomore
Ian Pavlak closed out the game with a shot blocked by the Mules.
