Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2014) – The Drew University men's soccer fell to 3-2-4 on the season after a 3-1 loss to Eastern University on the road Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles (6-1) were perfectly economical with their shots on goal during the non-conference contest, putting all three of their shots on target into the back of the net. Drew eventually outshot Eastern 11-8, but only put two of their strikes on frame.
One of those strikes was a quick response to the Eagles' opening tally. Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the 11
th minute when a corner kick was expertly flicked on by the head of the Eagles' Jadon Ramsing and past senior goalkeeper
Michael Reyes.
Sophomore midfielder
Dylan Hammer had the swift response, scoring his first goal of 2014 in the 16
th minute. The sophomore dropped the hammer on the Eagle defense by hooking a long shot from the far right side of the field and into the left netting to knot the game at 1-1.
The two defensive units were determined to settle the scoring pace and succeeded until the 32
nd minute. Eastern scored the eventual game-winner off a direct free kick, the only shot they took over the final 23 minutes of the opening half.
Chances became even more limited in the second half as Drew shored up its back line and Eastern fought to maintain the 2-1 lead. Senior defender
Michael Pezzuti threatened with an equalizer in the 64
th, but his shot was grabbed by Eastern goalkeeper Nick Policastro. Drew's next shot came 10 minutes later off a header from freshman defender
Eduardo Martinez that sailed just wide.
Eastern got its insurance goal in the 84
th minute and held on for its sixth win of the 2014 season.
Drew continues its season-long five-game stint away from Ranger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27 with a non-conference match at Manhattanville College at 5:30 p.m. The Rangers' next home game is their Landmark Conference home opener against Susquehanna University on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
