Box Score MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2014) – The Drew University field hockey team held the No. 3 ranked team in NCAA Division III, Montclair State University, at bay for half of Saturday evening's contest at Ranger Stadium, but the Red Hawks broke through for six second-half goals to take the 7-1 victory.
Led by freshman defender
Michele Pozyc, the Rangers' (0-3) defense frustrated a potent Montclair State attack during the opening 35 minutes. Pozyc came up with three defensive saves in the first half, and added another in the second half. Only three games into the season, the Drew rookie has five defensive saves, one away from moving into the Top 10 for most defensive saves in a season in the Ranger record books.
"Michele stayed composed under some very stressful situations," said head coach
Felicia Cappabianca. "She was able to remain consistent, not only with her defensive play, but also being able to get the ball moving on the offensive transition. She played like a leader out there; it was hard to tell she is a freshman today."
Junior goalkeeper
Sarah Stewart stood her ground in the opening half, making five saves to stunt the nationally-ranked offense of Montclair State.
MSU (3-1) scored its only goal of the first half in the 13
th minute. Senior midfielder
Melissa Boyd and junior midfielder
Bea Cannavale put some pressure on the Red Hawks' goal in the 29
th minute. Cannavale had her shot blocked and rebounded, then Boyd's follow-up shot forced a save by the MSU goalkeeper.
The Red Hawks would take flight after halftime, scoring its first of six second-half goals five minutes into the period. Montclair State scored four goals in a span of nine minutes to take a 5-0 lead, including one converted penalty stroke in the 41
st minute.
After MSU made it 6-0, sophomore

Sophomore goalkeeper
