Box Score MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2014) - The Drew University women's soccer team (1-2) dropped its opening game of the 13
th Annual Drew Fall Festival, 3-0, to Penn St.-Behrend (3-1) on a hot and humid Saturday afternoon.
The Lions immediately broke down the gate right from the first whistle and controlled possession for most of the half. They outshot the Rangers, 9-1. As the Lions attacked, Rangers goalkeeper
Sara Nash was able to tame them with an impressive outing. Nash continued a torrid start to the season in net by collecting five saves in the first half to keep the game tied 0-0 heading into halftime.
As the second half commenced, Nash picked up where she left off by making two saves within the first four minutes. In the 13th minute of the second half, the visiting team beat out the defense and skipped a ball to the left side of the net. Less than 10 minutes later, the Lions got on the board again. And with 13 minutes left in the game, a Behrend attacker passed the ball to the top of the 18-yard box to help notch its third and final score of the match.
In the final two minutes of the game, the Rangers were able to get the ball to the foot of prolific scorer, junior forward
Emma Campbell, who was able to rip two back-to-back shots. The Behrend keeper saved the first and the follow-up bounced off the goalpost to the boot of
Danielle Cowan. The junior midfielder's shot was blocked and sent over the end line for a corner kick.
Nash collected a total of nine saves for the Rangers in the loss. Drew returns to action Sunday for Game 2 of the Fall Fest tournament against the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors at 2:00 p.m. from Ranger Stadium.
