HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Jan. 17, 2015) – Just a few seconds in a few pulse-pounding events separated the Drew University and Juniata College women's swimming teams in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles edged the Rangers, 98-85.
 
Sophomore Lindsay Pearce and freshman Jenny Stein scored two first place finishes each, but Juniata's two-second victory in the opening 200 medley relay and a one-tenth of a second advantage in the 200 freestyle gave the Eagles just enough to claim the Landmark Conference duel.
 
Juniata jumped out to a big lead on Saturday with three straight victories in the 200 medley relay, the 800 freestyle, and the 200 freestyle. Stein ended that run by winning the 50 freestyle in 29.58 seconds for an important nine points. Pearce continued the momentum shift in the next event by winning the 200 individual medley convincingly in 2:45.91.
 
Earlier, sophomore Jordan Jessup lost a heartbreaker in the 200 freestyle, getting barely out-touched at the final wall by Juniata's Ellie Hainsworth. Jessup got her revenge and kept Drew on the comeback path with a victory in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.29.
 
Stein sustained the Rangers' charge back with a triumph in the 100 backstroke in 1:15.57. However, the Eagles answered by taking first and second place points in the 400 freestyle, putting the meet just out of reach. Pearce wasn't done with her successful day as she closed the Rangers' point scoring with a first place victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.55.
 
The Rangers return to the F.M. Kirby Pool on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6:00 p.m. for a non-conference dual meet against Mount St. Vincent College.
