Rangers Defeat Aggies on Campbell's First Half Goals

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2015) – The Drew University women's soccer team (3-4) renewed an old MAC rivalry this afternoon, in non-conference action against Delaware Valley University (2-4-1). The Rangers used two quick goals from senior captain Emma Campbell in the first half to bring home a 2-1 victory.

Today's contest between Drew and Delaware Valley marked the 14th time the two have faced each other since the inaugural match back in 1994. Before the match today the Rangers and the Aggies had not faced one another following a 4-2 Drew victory in 2005. Drew improves to 14-0 all-time against Delaware Valley with today's victory while increasing their goal advantage over the Aggies 41-10.

The Rangers offense got off to a fast start scoring the game's first goal just 44 seconds in. Senior co-captain Shannon Slowey dribbled down the right wing and fired a shot on net, Campbell headed home the rebound for her third goal of the season and first of the game.

Drew didn't waste any time following up their first goal with their second of the game just two minutes and thirty seconds later. Freshman Meghan McDermott attacked the right side of the Delaware Valley defense whipping in a cross that found the head of Campbell for her second of the day. The teams played even for the remaining time with Drew taking a 2-0 lead into the half.

Keeping with the quick-score theme the Aggies scored their first goal in the 46th minute, closing the Drew lead to one, 2-1. The Rangers were held scoreless in the second half, while outshooting the Aggies, 7-6 and drawing more corner opportunities, 4-3.

Senior goalkeeper Sara Nash notched her first win of the season making the start for the Rangers in goal this afternoon. Nash played a solid first half making three saves while holding the Aggies scoreless. Junior Andee Higgins came in for relief of Nash in the second half tallying two saves, surrendering one goal in her 45 minutes of work.

The Rangers continue the 2015 season as they travel to Newburgh, N.Y. on Wednesday, September 23 to take on the Mount Saint Mary College Knights.
