McDermott's Heroics Clinch 2OT Win Over Moravian

MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 18, 2016) — Sophomore forward Meghan McDermott played late-game hero on Tuesday night, netting her first goal of the season to break a scoreless tie with Moravian College for a pivotal 1-0, double-overtime victory in Landmark Conference play.

By the Numbers: The victory marks the third time that the Rangers have come away with a dramatic double-overtime victory. The important conference win ups their record to 2-3 in the Landmark. The Rangers (6-7-1) take their third home victory to bring their record to 3-4-1. Moravian, meanwhile drops to 6-5-1 overall, and 2-2 in the conference.

Top Performers: Senior goalkeeper Ryan Jackson logged her third shutout of the season, making four saves in the process. McDermott and junior midfielder Erin Connors both put two shots on net.

This is the second time a Ranger has scored her first goal of the season to win a game in double-overtime. The first was when senior midfielder Dani Millick did it against Mount St. Mary College on September 20th.

Stat Sheet: Drew outshot Moravian 11-9 on the evening, including nine to Moravian's three in an overwhelming second half. Drew conceded five corner kicks to Moravian in the first half but rediscovered their discipline in the second half, limiting them to one.

Other Highlights: Connors tried a powerful shot from well outside the penalty box that skipped just left of the post in the 23rd minute. That was Drew's first shot and its most significant scoring opportunity before McDermott's game-winner.

Up Next: Landmark Conference play on Ranger Stadium turf continues on Saturday when the Rangers celebrate Senior Day by honoring the four seniors on the squad. After the celebration, Drew will square off with Catholic in a pivotal conference matchup. The first whistle is set to blow at 1:00 p.m., but fans are encouraged to arrive early to help in honoring the four graduating Rangers.
