MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2016) — The Drew University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, bringing a fun celebration to a chilly afternoon Landmark Conference tilt against The Catholic University of America, a game that would end 6-0 in favor of Catholic.
By the Numbers: Drew's home record will close at 3-5-1. Their conference record dips to 2-4, and their overall record is 6-8-1. Catholic sits among the top of the conference with a 4-2 record with their overall record an impressive 11-2.
Turning Point: The Cardinals struck first, putting an early damper on the Senior Day celebration. It wasn't a cheap one though, only two people needed to touch the fundamentally sound corner kick. The taker put one high that dropped straight onto the head of a striker who flicked home the game's first score in the 19
th minute.
Stat Sheet: Senior goalie
Ryan Jackson made five saves in just the first half. Junior midfielder
Erin Connors tried two shots, sophomore forward
Alexis Castanheira shot one, and freshman midfielder
Sarah Burcaw did as well.
Other Highlights: Just four minutes after Catholic's opening score they added another one. The striker, in a crowd of defenders, played it back to another forward who put on a sharp ground strike that snuck between the post and Jackson.
Catholic continued to pile on with 32 minutes to go in the game. A striker slipped into the penalty box and challenged an uncontested ball, sliding to poke it past Jackson and extend their lead to 3-0.
The Cardinals relentlessly attacked the box, and added a fourth goal minutes after their third. The pattern remained the same for the rest of the contest.
Up Next: With just two games left on the regular season slate, the Rangers travel down the road to FDU-Florham for the Battle of Madison Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
