Second Half Goals Sink Scranton, 2-1, in Landmark Win

SCRANTON, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2016) – Freshman Andy Imoh and sophomore Anthony McMyne scored goals within four minutes of each other in the second half to push the Drew University men's soccer team past the defending Landmark Conference champions, The University of Scranton, in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory on the road Wednesday evening.

By the Numbers: The Rangers improve to 6-2-2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play with a 1-0-1 record. Scranton, who was ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region this week, fall to 7-3 and 1-2 in league play. The Rangers now have matching 3-1-1 records home and away, while the Royals dropped to 4-2 on their home turf.

Top Performers: With the Rangers behind 1-0 after the Royals opening scoring in the 26th minute, Imoh notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season, an unassisted blast from 20-yard outs to knot the score at 1-1 in the 63rd minute. Less than four minutes later, Imoh was involved in another scoring play, this time finding McMyne with a sneaky pass into the six-yard box. McMyne tucked away the eventual game-winner for his third goal of the 2016 campaign.

Turning Point: The Rangers avoided the dreaded 2-0 deficit with three saves by senior goalkeeper John Marques spanning the 55th and 61st minute. Those saves led to the possession in which the Rangers equalized in the 63rd. Once the Rangers took the lead, the defense locked in and only allowed one shot the rest of the way. Holding on for the win, Marques improved to 4-2 in net with four saves.

Other Highlights: Drew's first shot on goal came in the 59th minute, just four minutes before Drew finally broke through the Scranton defense. It was Imoh who took the shot that forced a save by the Scranton keeper, just one of three Drew shots on goal on Wednesday.

Stat Sheet: Overall, Scranton slightly outshot Drew, 8-7, with a similar edge in shots on goal (5-3). The Royals also took more corners, 5-2, and avoided a single offside call compared to the Rangers' four.

Up Next: The Rangers put their league unbeaten streak up against Juniata College on the road on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
