Men's Soccer Shuts Out Juniata Behind Four Goals

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2016) – The Drew University men's soccer team exploded offensively in a 4-0 shutout at Juniata College in a Landmark Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

By the Numbers: The Rangers win their third straight and remain unbeaten in their last five, moving to 7-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in league play. The Eagles fall to 3-10 and 1-3 in conference. Drew's four goals are a season high.

Top Performers: Senior midfielder Dylan Hammer had his hand heavily in the three-goal second half, assisting for the 2-0 lead in the 57th minute and scoring on an unassisted blast in the 64th for the commanding 3-0 lead.

Turning Point: Despite owning the majority of chances, the Rangers didn't break through the Juniata backline until the 32nd minute, when freshman Tyler Kwaak scored his first collegiate goal off a feed from junior Benjamin Audi, who records his first point of 2016 after missing the first nine games of the season.

Highlights: Senior midfielder Joe Sollod tied freshman Andy Imoh for the team lead in goals with his fifth tally of the fall, heading home a cross from Hammer that gave Drew a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Alexi Velasquez notched his first goal of the year to cap the scoring in the 76th minute off sophomore Max Correa's team-leading fourth assist of the year.

Stat Sheet: Twelve different Rangers took shots on goal on Saturday, with a total of 19-of-23 shots put on target as a team. Juniata managed eight shots, six of which were on goal and saved by Drew senior goalkeeper John Marques, who earns the win (5-2) and his second shutout of the season. Juniata's 15 total saves came two shy of tying a Landmark Conference record.

Up Next: The Rangers remain on the road Wednesday, Oct. 12 for a non-conference tilt at Swarthmore College at 7:30 p.m.
