MADISON, N.J. (Nov. 19, 2016) – The Drew University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were perfect in a tri-meet over Elizabethtown College and FDU-Florham at the F.M. Kirby Pool on Saturday afternoon.
By The Numbers: Both squads improve to 4-2 overall as the men beat FDU-Florham, 135-59, and Landmark Conference for Elizabethtown, 113-86. The women beat their cross-street rivals the Devils, 123-36, and topped the Blue Jays, 117-84.
Top Performers: Freshman Michael Ma set a new Drew University record in the 200-yard individual medley by edging out the former record-holding time by five-hundredths of a second at 2:01.12. Ma also collected a first place finish in the 400 yard medley relay, and another individual first place finish in the 100 yard breastroke. Freshman Mal Vishwanath remains unbeaten in her college career, dominating in the 1000-yard freestyle once again. Freshman Jen Cortez earned a first place finish in the 200 freestyle.
Other Highlights: Freshman Garrett Pilkington finished first in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle races. Freshman Jack Mahoney dominated the sprint races collecting first place finishes in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. The men's 200 yard freestyle relay team of Ryan Underwood, Mack Fox, Shehab Marzouk and Pilkington just edged out their opponent by one second to earn a first place finish. More of the freshman domination continued with Stephanie Cushman taking first in the 200 IM. Sophomore Jenny Stein continued her sprinting domination taking first in the 50 freestyle, while senior Jordan Jessup was part of three first place finishes in the 400-yard medley relay (freestyle leg), the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
Up Next: Drew Swimming and Diving looks to continue their assault on the program record board when they host the Ranger Invitational on Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3 at the F.M. Kirby Pool.
