Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Cola Converts 5 in 15-9 Setback vs. Elizabethtown

MADISON, N.J. (April 16, 2016) – The most powerful offensive output of the season was not enough for the Drew University men's lacrosse team to hand Elizabethtown College its first Landmark Conference loss on Saturday at Ranger Stadium. The Blue Jays (10-3, 5-0) overcame an early deficit to defeat the Rangers (1-11, 0-5) by a score of 15-9.

Top Performers: Senior midfielder Steven Cola scored a career-high five goals and added three groundballs, while freshman attacker Thomas Ensmenger scored a goal and passed out two assists for Drew. Junior defender Frank Kingston scooped up a team-high five groundballs and caused three turnovers, a career-high mark.

Turning Point: Cola came out firing and gave Drew an early 1-0 lead 1:36 into the contest, then Drew's defense and midfielder worked together to hold the slim lead for most of the period. Cola scored again with 4:35 left in the period for the 2-0 advantage, but Elizabethtown would tie it up with two goals in the final 35 seconds. Those two goals were the first of nine straight goals by the Blue Jays spanning into the third quarter.

Other Highlights: Senior attacker Ben Ludeman scored a goal and an assist during Drew's four-goal fourth quarter. One of two Tom Cotroneo's assists came on a beautiful goal by Ensmenger with 4:04 to play in the contest, when Cotroneo's back pass found the freshman 10 yards out from net. Ensmenger fired a turnaround shot into the top corner of the cage for Drew's seventh goal of the game.

Drew scored the final three goals of the contest with Cola getting his fifth with 43 seconds left. Sophomore midfielder Colin Kreder scored his first career goal in the third period, and junior defender Michael Lloyd netted the fourth goal of his season in the conference setback.

Coach's Corner: "Steven Cola had an incredible game, one of the best he's had during a successful career at Drew. We came out with a lot of intensity and showed great fight against one of the conference's best teams. Getting a season-high in goals is a good way to head into the last couple of weeks of the season." – Head Coach Thomas Leanos.

Up Next: Drew will host its Senior Day game on Saturday, April 23 at Ranger Stadium at 1:00 p.m. against Moravian College, who restarted its varsity lacrosse program after a five-year hiatus. Moravian will join the Landmark Conference next season.
